Tottenham Boss Thomas Frank Labels Vicario Critics 'Not True Genuine Supporters'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Spurs and Raise Pressure on the Manager

Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals cannot be true Spurs supporters" by manager Frank.

Tottenham let in a pair of scores in the first six minutes to fall 2-1 to their opponents, marking their tenth top-flight at home defeat of 2025.

But the primary talking point was Fulham's next goal when Vicario lost the ball well beyond his box.

He ventured out to deal with a high pass and took the ball towards the touchline.

However, instead of booting it out of play, the Italy international spun and tried to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

The forward laid the ball off to Wales midfielder Wilson, who curled a shot into the goal from the touchline measured at thirty-six point six yards.

Moments afterwards when the ball went to Vicario once more, a number of Tottenham supporters booed him.

Spurs were jeered off at the interval, with the club 2-0 down, and again at full-time.

A particular of those jeering sessions truly irritated Frank.

"It came to my attention some of our supporters reportedly jeered the situation and jeered following, which, in my opinion is completely unacceptable," the Dane commented regarding the fans' response to his shot-stopper.

"[They] can't be true Tottenham fans that act that way. Alright booing following the match, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing each other, we are behind each other going forward."

Kenny Tete had given Fulham a fourth-minute advantage prior to Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Spurs in an better second period showing.

Ex- top-flight goalkeeper Hart remarked that the second goal was "totally avoidable".

"I certainly appreciate the supporters' frustration," the ex-keeper continued. "I am aware the role Vicario is performing. He is a great squad member, he's a true leader in the locker room but in the end you are going to be judged by your actions.

"The keeper was heavily implicated in what ended up to be the winning score."

'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match

Italian international the keeper is in his 3rd campaign with Tottenham.

The 29-year-old said following the match that he had to take the criticism.

"That score was a mistake of my own, I accept responsibility for it," he said.

"My aim was to clear the ball long and I just hit the ball in a bad way. That made an even bigger mountain to climb."

He said receiving jeers "is part of football".

"I am mature, what can I say?" he continued. "The team can't be influenced by the circumstances in the stands. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.

"It's on us to stay more calm, to focus on our own performance. We are lacking in calmness and poise to reverse results. Today is a poor loss and it is hard to accept."

'It Shocked Me Nobody Went Back to the Line'

Despite the keeper's mistake, it was not an simple score for Harry Wilson to convert.

In fact it was the next most distant top division score of the campaign – after Adams' 43.3 yard strike for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which incidentally also occurred on Saturday.

The goalscorer stated he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an empty net to target.

10 seconds passed between Vicario coming out of his area and Wilson striking – which was five seconds after the clearance.

"It seemed to me like the keeper was away from the box for ages," he said.

"I was surprised not one of the defenders returned to the goal line. When none of them covered the net, my interest sparked a bit.

"Udogie fell too, which allowed me a little additional time. After that it was solely about trying to make the correct contact and place it on target. I had a good feeling, the moment it came off my boot, that it was on the right line."

'During in a Poor Run, Everything Seems to Work Against You'

Booing While We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unjustifiable - the Manager

While Vicario's error led headlines, this was an all-round bad day for Spurs to extend their home ground woes.

The match was their tenth at home defeat of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared team statistic along with 1994 and two thousand and three.

The side still have home fixtures against the manager's former club the Bees and title holders the Reds to come prior to the end of the year.

Just a single of those wins have occurred after Frank took over from his predecessor in the off-season.

"If you are behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a huge challenge to climb," said the boss.

"During in a poor run, all aspects seems to work against you as well – the opening was a redirected attempt, the next is a mistake from the keeper.

"The outcome puts us in a position where we have lost another game. Every game has a unique story, today we lost in the first six minutes.

"We just need to continue striving. The second half was significantly improved and hopefully something we can utilize to develop."

Tottenham have been defeated in 4 consecutive at home London derbies for the initial time in the Premier League.

And they are averaging nine point five attempts and three point two shots on target per match in the division – their poorest rates on file in a single season (dating back to 2003-04).

Former Cottagers midfielder Murphy commented that the manager has to ride the storm.

"He must accept the stick," Murphy said. "He has accepted a high profile role at a huge team with massive expectation. There is pressure and responsibility that comes with that.

"Their showings at home have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
