The Gruesome Animated Movie Ending That Haunts Fans
Out of every adult-oriented animated films I have personally viewed, no other has lingered in my mind as much as the dread-soaked ending of the viscerally violent and highly provocative film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, the Spanish filmmaker developed a dark, melancholy , often savage world that included a few small , forlorn twinges of optimism.
Although Unicorn Wars feels like it originated from a drive to push the medium further, the filmmaker stated that it was more an effort to convey a widespread, cross-cultural theme about “the common origin of each battle.”
That idea is conveyed via a group of vividly colored bears , clearly modeled after a well-known line of cuddly characters.
Maturing in a society focused on warmongering as well as the military-industrial complex, many of these animals are obsessed with killing unicorns, due to a sacred text which states the bears they used to be rulers of the woodland, before these creatures expelled them.
Others have not completely accepted the indoctrination, , prefer to sample narcotics and fornicate outdoors.
Unlike their friendly counterparts, these bright beings display sexual organs , definite sex drives.
For one especially vicious, skeptical animal, the bear named Bluey, the conflict against the unicorns turns into a route to power — and specifically to supremacy over his more tender, kinder brother Tubby.
The character is a bully and a seeming sociopath , and while fear takes over his squad and kills his teammates one by one, he seizes increasingly control personally, in increasingly bloody, damaging approaches.
Simultaneously, these mythical beings are suffering their own nightmare, as a growing, harmful creature in their habitat.
“At the beginning, it appears as a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker stated. “Yet it turns into a more intense and melancholic movie. And in the finale, it becomes a scary feature.”
The Unicorn Wars begins resembling one of the most playful features by an iconic animator, that discover a mischievous joy in permitting drawn beings curse, fire weapons, or engage sexually.
Then it evolves into something more like a bleaker work from that creator, with increasingly visual gore , a tangible connection to the actual horror of war.
Ultimately, it’s an outright Grand Guignol massacre.
The fear that makes the film an ideal spooky-season watch kicks in a lot earlier than indicated.
Unicorn Wars is ideal for the most dedicated lovers of violence, for lovers of extreme cinema who want to view a movie they haven’t ever viewed until now, and can endure a story which delivers no restraint.
View it in a dimly lit space without any distractions, and the finale will burrow into your mind and linger.
