Keely Hodgkinson Wraps Up Season with Winning Performance at Athlos Meet in New York
The athlete recorded her personal best of 1:54.61 the previous season in the British capital.
Keely Hodgkinson concluded her two-lap season with a win at the women-only Athlos meet in New York on Friday evening.
{The current Olympic champion, who secured third place at the global championships recently, dominated an outstanding win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a season affected by a muscle issue.
Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) secured third place.
"I've barely raced this season so it was likely less of a struggle for me to go out there and be motivated to perform," stated the 23-year-old.
"The environment out there is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."
The women-only event packed Icahn Stadium in its second year, introducing a festive vibe to traditional track, with live music and special crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is married to Athlos founder Alexis O., was on hand to present the victors with their tiaras.
Previous champions took home sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.
The competition also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's triple Olympic champion and world record holder Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.
American Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, won the 100m and 200m double.
