Flight operations have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport after a major technical issue at the control tower brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped because of an IT issue that arose around 08:30.

Some passengers were left waiting in planes on the runway during the disruption.

Operations Restart with Residual Impact

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".

That said, considerable delays are expected to continue throughout the day. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with numerous other services experiencing delays.

Officials had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be affected.

"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their booked journeys," officials reiterated.

Source of the Issue

The airport attributed the widespread suspension to an systems failure with its ATC service provider.

Travelers should still plan to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the hub as backlogs are managed.
