Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup Versus Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros winning the championship in the 2017 season.

Canada's MLB team reached their initial World Series since 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the American League Championship Series.

Trailing by two runs, the star outfielder hit a three-run blast in the seventh, leading the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series win in the series. They will now face the defending champions, who are the reigning title, in the anticipated World Series.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, Toronto, the nation," said Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."

Springer has now hit twenty-three playoff homers, placing him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).

"There's probably not another player in the world that I want up in that situation besides George Springer with his October magic," noted manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the one club yet to make an appearance in a World Series.

Manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it's going to sting" in the wake of his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their performance this season.

"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we had to come out on the losing end of this one," he added.

Toronto claimed the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Dodgers in the opener on Friday.
